Welcome to MAY!!! I hope you all are preparing for the end of this school year and that state testing is almost a distant memory. We are down to just 20 school days remaining with students! WE CAN DO IT!!
A bit of news that we would like to share with you is that Denise Wiley’s mother passed away. Denise will be taking some time off to be with family during this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Should you have any issues or concerns, please contact me, Angie Adkins.

May is going to be a very busy month. We have 12 teachers retiring. Congratulations to Debora Belt, Lori Clapper, Pamela Fry, Elizabeth Ricciardo, Ann Robinson, Robin Wagner, Michael Wigglesworth, Vicki Flanagan, Brenda Kreider, Judith Nelson, Connie Mathis and Rita Woeste. Thank you for your dedicated service to Newark City Schools! The NTA sponsored retirement dinner honoring these retirees is May 14th at The Trout Club. The executive board as well as NCS administration are looking forward to honoring our retirees and their guest at the dinner.
We had 8 scholarship winners and awarded each $500 from the NTA. Those recipients are John Lamp, Grant Myers, Abigail Roberts, Abigail Travis, Kody Felumlee, Katherine Anderson, Garrett French and Morgan Page. Congratulations to these seniors!
The next Newark City Schools Board Meeting will be Monday, May 13th, 2019 at 6:30pm. This meeting will be at the Newark City Schools Administrative Service Center.
May 16th is our regularly scheduled late start. This late start is teacher driven meaning this is time to work in your classroom on planning or end of year paperwork.
May 25th is graduation day for Newark City Schools seniors. Graduation will take place at White’s Field.
May 27th is Memorial Day and NO SCHOOL! Enjoy a long 3 day weekend with your family and friends!!
May 30th is the last day for students and is a 2-hour early release.
May 31st and June 3rd will be the Summer Institute as well as our make-up days. Teachers are required to stay from 8:30 – 1:30 but can choose to stay until 3:30 and receive $150 towards supplies for classrooms. Retiring teachers ARE NOT required to attend the Summer Institute and can use this time to pack up their personal belongings in their classrooms. Teachers leaving Newark City Schools also are not required to attend and can use these days to pack up their personal belongings in their classrooms. If you will be missing either of these days due to illness or doctors appointments it is likely that a doctors note will be requested from you.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication and keep up the good work! The end of the school year is in sight!!!
