Dear Members,

Happy Ground Hog’s Day, Happy Valentines, and Happy President’s Day. Yes, that is right we have made it to February and made it through the first semester. Congratulations on a job well done. I hope you have all enjoyed your school year so far. I know I can’t believe how fast it has gone by. One minute it is August and the next minute it is February.

The month of February starts out with an LPDC meeting on February 7, 2017 at Liberty Middle School. This meeting will take place at Liberty Middle School at 4pm. Make sure not to make a new professional development plan until after you have renewed your license if your license is up for renewal this year. If you do not have a professional development plan you need to get one ASAP. You cannot earn CEUs without a plan or earn graduate credit hours without a plan. All plans must be submitted by 3pm on February 1 to be approved at the February 1st meeting at 4pm.

On February 8 is NCS day of caring. All building will spend the day building social emotional relations with students.

On February 12 the Newark City School Board will be meeting at the Roosevelt ASC at 6:30pm. This is the first meeting after the reorganizations meeting the board conducted in January. The new School Board President is Tim Carr and the Vice President is Warren Webber

On February 13, 2016 the Social Studies Department will conduct its monthly meeting at 7am in j building. Social Studies Department will be looking at their data and sharing their student samples.

On February 14 the NTA executive board will meet at the NTA office at 3:45pm. At this meeting the board with discuss upcoming elections of officers in March. We will also plan our spring activities

February 15 is the late start for the district. This late start is district lead. So it will be up the buildings to develop a plan for this late start. The next teacher driven late start will be in March and May.

On February 19 there is no school due to Presidents day. Enjoy your day off and have some fun times with the family.

On February 21 the Faculty Reps will meet at the NTA office at 4:15pm. This meeting is open to all members and I encourage reps to bring other members to check out the latest happenings in the district.

On February 21 I will be traveling to Columbus for all day presidents meeting. The meeting will be at OEA headquarters and I will be out of the office until Thursday.

On February 26 the negotiations committee will be meeting finalize plans on new NTA shirts for all members and will continue to work on new contract language.

On February 28 NTA executive board will meet with Doug and Barb for our monthly RAP session. If any members have any questions or topics you would like us to bring up feel free to contact any of the board members or myself.

As you can see, the month of February is a very busy month and there are a lot of events and meetings going on at the NTA office.
